How much does it cost to celebrate in the Greater Toronto Area in 2026? There is no good public answer — venues hide pricing behind contact forms, and national "average wedding cost" figures ignore how much guest count, culture, and which GTA city you are in actually move the number. So we built one. This report aggregates 2026 GTA planning costs across seven event types — from a CA$2,000 baby shower to a CA$150,000+ multi-event South Asian wedding — with the per-guest math and the city-by-city premiums that drive every total. Use it to sanity-check a quote, set a realistic budget, or cite a real local number.
Key findings (2026)
Five numbers do most of the work. (1) Plan for roughly CA$200–$300 per guest all-in for a full-service GTA wedding, and CA$80–$150 per guest for a milestone event. (2) Venue plus catering is about half of any celebration budget. (3) Downtown Toronto runs 20–30% more than an equivalent event in Peel (Brampton/Mississauga); Halton and Durham offer the best value in 2026. (4) A single Ontario line item catches people out — banquet-hall service charges of 18–24% are themselves subject to 13% HST, so the tax compounds. (5) Guest count is the single biggest lever on every event type; trimming the list beats renegotiating any one vendor.

How much does an event cost per guest in the GTA?
For a full-service wedding, budget roughly CA$200–$300 per guest all-in (premium plated menus reach CA$350+). For milestone events — birthdays, anniversaries, engagement parties — plan CA$80–$150 per guest for a standard catered event, and CA$40–$80 for a casual one. Because catering and venue scale directly with head count, per-guest is the most reliable way to size any celebration: multiply your guest list by the figure above for a fast, defensible first estimate.

Where the money goes
Across every event type, venue and catering together are the largest block — about half of the total. For a mid-size GTA wedding that is roughly CA$25,000–$45,000+ of a CA$50,000 budget, with food alone at CA$50–$150 per person and bar service adding CA$15–$50 per guest on top. The rest is split across photography and videography (CA$2,800–$6,500 and CA$1,900–$5,400 respectively), decor and florals, entertainment, attire and beauty, a planner or coordinator, and stationery. Cultural and multi-event celebrations cost more mainly because they multiply the venues, catering meals, and vendor hours — not because any single vendor charges more.

Ranges are built from vendor-published pricing (photographers, videographers, DJs and makeup artists increasingly list packages publicly), the catering and venue economics documented in our GTA cost-guide series, and review against real quotes couples and hosts have shared.
